Meatballs with Hambagu Sauce

Today’s dinner was one of the best we’ve eaten. Satsuki made some meatballs using ground pork that has been mixed with ground beef. As for the sauce, she uses Japanese Hambagu sauce (and red wine) rather than the usual marinara sauce. She paired the meatballs with white rice and pasta salad.

When they say “don’t judge a book by its cover”, they were right. I was very picky when it comes to food appearance, and I bet many of you does that too. However after eating so many different type of food, I come to accept that the appeal of food is in its taste, not its look. So introducing, the Pork Belly Stew! It might not look very appealing but it sure taste great.

Pempek Palembang - Fish Cake Dish from Indonesia

We’ve ordered some Pempek (or Empek-Empek) from a local catering service in Dallas. I’ve eaten this during my stay in Jakarta and I really enjoyed it. So what is Empek-Empek? Here is a snip taken from Wikipedia.

Pempek or Empek-Empek is a delicacy from Palembang which is made of fish and sago. Pempek is eaten together with a dark sauce called cuka or cuko (in bahasa Palembang). Cuko is produced from adding brown sugar, chili pepper, garlic, vinegar, and salt into hot boiling water.

Sweet Potato Mousse Cake from Tous Les Jours

For Ewdi’s birthday, we got him a cake from Tous Les Jours, a bakery in Carollton, TX inside the H-Mart. The sweet potato mousse cake was amazing and you can really taste the sweet potato on ever scoop of the mousse. Now, I’m simply craving for more….

With so much left over shrimp in my fridge I need to use them before their freshness totally disappear. What kind of dish can I make that would be fairly quick and make a good use of all the shrimp? Then an idea pops in my head, Shrimp burger!
